Dan Beard 2026 Spring Camporee
How about Aviation Merit Badge
Scouts Flying High for the Aviation Merit Badge
2026 Dan Beard Spring Camporee May 15th – 17th
This year’s Spring Camporee will be held at Skyhaven Airport 17 Runway Rd, Tunkhannock, PA 18657 from Friday, May 15th through Sunday, May 17th. During Saturday’s activities Scouts will have an opportunity to earn the Aviation merit badge as we tour the airport and learn from their skilled pilots and staff.
Scouts who are interested in earning the merit badge will need to complete and bring with them the following prerequisites:
2. Principles of Flight. Do ONE of the following: See Air Race for more details
(a) Build a model FPG-9. Get others in your troop or patrol to make their own model, then organize a competition to test the precision of fl ight and landing of the models.
(b) Build a rubber-band driven balsa wood airplane. Fly the plane for 25 feet in a straight line, with a smooth landing.
(c) Build (or obtain) a fuel-driven or battery-powered electric model aircraft or drone. Obtain The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) certifi cation, and fl y the aircraft with a successful take-off and landing.
Each Scout needs to include their name and Troop number on their pre-requisite workbook. A Scout completing prerequisites needs to understand that a written response must be in his own words. A written response involving text a Scout has “copied and pasted” (or otherwise borrowed verbatim from a source) will not be accepted as fulfillment of a prerequisite.
Attendance is no guarantee of receiving credit for the merit badge attempted at the Camporee. This merit badge requires active preparation and participation.
