Den Chief Training

Den Chief Training is a specialized program designed to equip Scouts with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively assist Cub Scout den leaders. This training focuses on leadership development, understanding the Cub Scout program, and learning how to engage younger scouts in activities.

The Northeastern PA Council Training Committee is offering a half-day Den Chief Training course for all Scouts BSA who are aspiring to become a prospective Den Chief or those who are already a Den Chief but have never been officially trained for the job. There are no requirements as to the age to be a Den Chief, however, it is recommended that you be at least 2nd Class or have been a Scout in a Troop for at least one year.  Scoutmaster’s approval is required.

Note – you MUST be registered in Scouts BSA to take this training and be approved by your Scoutmaster!

Key Components of Den Chief Training:

  1. Leadership Skills: Scouts learn how to be role models and mentors for Cub Scouts, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
  2. Program Knowledge: Training covers the basics of the Cub Scout program, including rank advancements, ceremonies, and the importance of the Cub Scout Promise and Law.
  3. Activity Planning: Scouts are taught how to plan and lead fun and educational activities that keep Cub Scouts engaged and excited about scouting.
  4. Communication: Emphasis is placed on effective communication techniques to ensure clear and positive interactions with both Cub Scouts and adult leaders.
  5. Problem-Solving: Scouts learn strategies for managing group dynamics and addressing common challenges that may arise during den meetings.

By the end of the training, Den Chiefs are well-prepared to support their dens, contribute to the success of the Cub Scout program, and develop their own leadership abilities. This training not only benefits the Cub Scouts but also provides valuable experience for the Den Chiefs as they grow in their scouting journey.
