A letter from the Scout-O-Rama Committee Chair, Don Miller, District Program
Chairman:
It was the summer of 1966 when a 10 year old Cub Scout went with his Mother to
see a show called a Spectarama. All
that the young scout knew was that he was going to see something about scouting.
And that was good enough for him because he loved scouting.
It was the one place that he always fit in.
As he walked through the doors, his eyes opened wide and an expression of
surprise and wonderment shown on his face as the adrenalin pumped through his
body. Boy Scouts and Explorers
(people he knew) were rappelling down a climbing wall.
Canoes where in a large pool.
Tents were set up and there were information booths everywhere. When he
saw the Signal Towers, Camping Displays and crafts.
Not to mention the Scout Skills demonstrations along with dancers from
the Order-Of-The-Arrow. Well, there
was no way that he would ever join anything but Boy Scouts.
When he saw all of that and more, there was only one thought on his mind.
How long did he have to wait to be one of them?
A Boy Scout!
His answer came a year or two later and…
I’VE BEEN A SCOUT EVER SINCE!
Please help us do the same for the young boys (and girls) that we have in our
communities today.
This show will include Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, Explorers and Venture
Crews. We will display ourselves
to the public during the weekend of May 29, 30, 31.
A full program with camping, competition and displays will be in Kirby
Park while the Cub Scouts will occupy the Armory.
