Planning, Developing, and Carrying Out Your…Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project (UPDATED)
A guide providing detailed advice on how to prepare an Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project proposal that the council Eagle Board of Review will approve.
Attention Scouts, Leaders, and Parents or Guardians
Eagle Scout rank requirement 5 has been reworded. To support that change, a new Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook has been created. Through Dec. 31, 2011, Scouts have a choice to use either the new workbook or the one it is replacing. Scouts whose Eagle Scout service project has already been approved by the council under the former wording of requirement 5—and using the former workbook—should continue with the same workbook. If their project has not yet been approved by the council, they may elect to use the revised requirement 5 and the new workbook. Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Eagle Scout candidates—unless they have already submitted a plan for approval by the council under the former requirement—will be expected to fulfill the revised service project requirement 5 using the new workbook.

Glen A. & Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award
The National Eagle Scout Association has established the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award to recognize valuable service of an exceptional nature by a Scout to a religious institution, a school, community, or other entity. The award recognizes the Scout for his Eagle Scout leadership service project, which is part of the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout Award. Each local council will choose a council-level winner, and from that pool, each region will pick a region-level winner. A national winner then will be selected from the four regional finalists.
EAGLE SCOUT AWARD KITS
As of January 1, 2011, Troops will need to now purchase Eagle Award Kits from the Scout Shop, regardless of when the Eagle Rank was earned. For many years these award kits were given to Troops for new Eagle Scouts free of charge due to the generosity of corporate donations. Unfortunately, the funding to sponsor the cost of these Kits has been exhausted and is not being renewed.
We extend deep thanks and appreciation to our many different sponsors who made the Eagle Awards a gift to over 2,000 new Eagle Scouts over the last 20+ years. The kits currently cost $24.49 (subject to change as dictated by BSA Supply Division).
Thank you for your understanding as we are required to make this change.
Anyone with interest or knowledge regarding potential future re-sponsorship for these Eagle Award Kits should contact Dave Srebro at the Service Center at (570) 207-1227 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
