EBS Derby Day - June 16th

Be part of Boy Scout History

EBS Derby Day
at Misericordia University

On June 16, 2012 Edwards Business Systems and Konica Minolta are once again hosting “Derby Day”.  "Derby Day” consists of individuals and area businesses participating in a Home Run Derby contest, Fast Pitch Competition and an official BSA pinewood derby race.

The event will take place at Misericordia University and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council will be building the longest pinewood derby track (540’) to beat a previous record. Winners from each of the Districts Championship will race off on this track for the Council Championship. After that race has been completed, the track will be open to anyone who wants to race their pinewood derby car down the track for a donation to the summer camping programs in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council Boy Scouts of America.

“What is the Historic Traveling Camporee”

The Historic Traveling Camporee is a three-day weekend campout by chartered bus. It is fun, educational and one-of-a-kind ~ one of Scouting’s mountaintop experiences. Out of almost three hundred councils across the United States, Northeastern Pennsylvania Council is the “ONLY” Boy Scout Council to host biennial Traveling Camporees on a regular basis.

Join us this year as we embark on a “Revolutionary Adventure” ~ visiting the area where it all started – Boston, Massachusetts! “One if by land – two if by sea!” As part of the historic Freedom Trail, we will visit the Old North Church where this scenario took place, plus – Paul Revere’s boyhood home; his burial spot, along with John Hancock, Samuel Adams, “Mother Goose” and more; the site where the Boston Massacre took place, the USS Constitution – “Old Iron-sides”; the Bunker Hill Monument – 294 steps to the top; and the world famous Quincy Market. Stand on the North Bridge in Concord at the very spot where “the shot heard ‘round the world” actually happened; and much, much more.

Join us for an activity-packed weekend ~ and a mountain-top experience on 2012’s exciting and educational 12th biennial Traveling Camporee to Sturbridge, Boston, Concord and Lexington, MA.

Journey to Excellence

A Boy Scout is taught to always “Do Your Best” and the Boy Scout Program encourages personal growth. As a Council, we believe that we should set the example by constantly striving to improve the council.

The BSA National Council has provided a measuring tool that provides guidance for our improvement called Journey To Excellence (“JTE”). All 292 Councils in the Boy Scouts of America are evaluated monthly in 17 criteria and may be classified as gold, silver, bronze or below standard in each of the 17 criteria as well as an overall council score.

We will provide a regular update here as to our progress towards becoming one of the best small councils in the Boy Scouts of America. Please choose the Journey to Excellence page to see a detailed discussion of where we are in each category.
